"The cold, suffocating dark goes on forever, and we are alone. Live our lives, lacking anything better to do. Devise reason later. Born from oblivion; bear children, hell-bound as ourselves; go into oblivion. There is nothing else. Existence is random. Has no pattern save what we imagine after staring at it for too long. No meaning save what we choose to impose. This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children. Not Fate that butchers them or Destiny that feeds them to the dogs. It's us. Only us."
If that's not Nietzsche being channeled, I don't know what is.

This is how the world ends.
I have always been a man of science. Therefore, I performed quite the interesting experiment today. I took a poll regarding what people imagined the end of the world would be like. I hypothesized that since the majority of the United States holds belief in some form of Christianity, that the majority of the people I polled would believe in a biblical form of the apocalypse. As a corollary, I believed that I would find a distinctly even break between people who thought there would be some form of an environmental apocalypse (i.e. nature strikes back and kicks our ass) and some form of a man-made apocalypse (i.e. nuclear or bio-engineered). The results justified my main hypothesis, but there was more weight in an environmental apocalypse than a man-made one. It's possible to attribute such a distribution between the latter two to the fact that the Cold War is long over and the actual threat of nuclear war does not affect the general population as it once did. Here's the breakdown:
Biblical: 17 people
Environmental: 9 people
Man-made: 3 people
Pink Bunnies: 1 people
Total polled: 30 people
Notice the last one: "Pink Bunnies". In my wanderings, I stumbled upon an interesting character, dribbling ice cream on himself. He was a social reject, one of the many that have been born with not so much faulty, but different, wiring under the hood. I felt a sort of affinity to this man, and probably because of the ice cream, so I decided to include him in my poll, if only just give him a sense of belonging. He told me that the pink bunnies were coming. He believed that the war between the pink bunnies and the psychopathic trees was about to begin, and that the human race would notice the obvious far too late to take sides with the winners and that we would be obliterated and wiped out as collateral damage. It's interesting, because those who are on the brink of insanity may be the sanest ones of all.
The pink bunnies may be coming after all.
